AMY AND ELLWOOD SAWBY

The acreage where we meet is owned by Ellwood and Amy Sawby - my mom and dad.  They have truly lived a life with horses and now in their 80s they don't seem to be slowing down much.

Ellwood and Amy moved from Calgary in 1978, with a very young family, after buying 80 acres just outside of Airdrie, Ab. They had their first foals at their new home that spring. They went on to raise and train 4 foals a year with the help of their children who began riding and competing in 4 H and in local riding clubs.  Amy was assistant leader of the Airdrie Flying Hooves 4 H Club for 3 years.

Amy and Ellwood both started penning in 1987.  Ellwood has been President of the Canadian Team Cattle Penning Association, the Chinook Team Cattle Penning Association, the Central Alberta Team Penning Association and he started the Alberta Team Sorting Association In 2014.  ATSA  had 562 two-person teams at the 2020 Finals.  He was also the director of USTPA (US Team Penning Association) for 4 years.

They love to compete with their horses and have won multiple saddles and many buckles in both cattle penning and sorting.  Amy won a high point saddle at the Canadian Penning Finals in 1999 and  Ellwood won a buckle at the United States National Penning Finals in Amarillo, Texas in 2004.  They also enjoy heading south to Arizona with their horses for the winter where they join others to compete in Sorting.

SAWBY'S QUARTER HORSES

Ellwood and Amy Sawby have lived on their beautiful acreage just east of Airdrie, Alberta for over 40 years.  They currently have 40 acres of land with a barn, indoor arena, two outdoor arenas, an outdoor corral system and a gorgeous back field to enjoy.
